Following mould-breaking work on Old Holborn, we were invited by the brand owner, Gallaher, to develop name, brand identity and packaging design for a milder alternative.

What we did

We evolved Old Holborn’s visual heritage, softening it with the core elliptical frame and more appropriate, organic colours.

What happened next

Amber Leaf rapidly established itself as a brand with a distinctive personality and proposition in its own right, challenging long-established market leaders to achieve a significant market share.

Our innovative, crushproof flip-top pack – a hand-rolling kit containing tobacco plus papers – was a winner at the prestigious London International Advertising Awards and was a finalist at the DBA Design Effectiveness Awards. Clearly it also hit the spot with consumers, contributing to a 40% increase in sales.
